Dog and Butterfly

Where Does the Butterfly go When it Rains?

I enjoyed the mild temperatures we had today with the high around 76 which is rare for the end of July.  I took a walk while my younger son rode his bike before heading to the library.  After the library we went back outside and I watched him ride his bike across the street.  While watching him I felt a few raindrops start to fall so I stepped inside the garage right when it begain to rain harder.  As I was stepping inside I saw a yellow butterfly heading toward the trees in my backyard, which made me think of a book I had as a child, "Where Does the Butterfly go When it Rains."  When I did a search for this book I saw that the updated version with the different cover and pictures looked much different than the one I owned.  The one I had was with the original blue and white cover and pictures.  It's funny the small details you can remember from when you were little.

Craving Chocolate!

I'm really craving something with chocolate right now so tomorrow while I'm out I might pick up the incredients needed to make this recipe I just found for Black Midnight Cake!

Black Midnight Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

•2¼ cups (270 gm) all-purpose flour

•2/3 cup (27 gm) cocoa powder

•3/4 tsp (4 ml) salt

•1¼ cups (313 ml) water

•2 eggs

•1+ 2/3 cups (166 gm) white sugar

•1¼ tsp (6 ml) baking soda

•1/2 tsp (3 ml) baking powder

•3/4 cup (187 gm) margarine or butter

•1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350°F or 180°C. Grease and flour two 9" (23 cm) diameter round layer pans. (parchment paper on the bottom makes for easier removal) Cream together the sugar and the butter and then beat in the eggs. Add the water and vanilla and mix,
Add all other ingredients, mixing at low speed, scraping bowl as needed.
Beat for three minutes at high speed, still scraping the bowl.
Pour into pans. Bake for 30 - 35 minutes until toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.

Deals I Found Today While out with Caleb

Caleb was really helpful around the house today vacuuming downstairs, then later the upstairs, putting clothes in the drawer, just to name a few.  Some of the neighborhood kids go to year round school and have already started back to school.  His friend that lives across from us at the end of the cul-de-sac hasn't started back yet but, was gone for most of the day which meant Caleb was really bored!  He rode his electric scooter some and every once in a while he would ride his bike but, with nobody else to ride with it wasn't long until he was tired of that so, when he asked to go somewhere we decided to go to the mall for a little while.  While there I bought him a hat and a shirt that was on sale at The Children's Place.  Another place we went where I spent too much money was Bath & Body Works.  After the doing damage to the credit card there we left and then went to Charlotte Russe where I looked but didn't buy anything.  I do plan to go back tomorrow!  After returning home Caleb rode his bike and scooter some more before coming to hang out with me on the porch.  We both read books and I enjoyed an iced coffee.  Life is good!  :)

Last Night's Taco Night

When my parents and my nephew came over for taco night last night it was a success!  We had a big spread with all the toppings laid out, rice, mexican corn, refried beans, black beans, etc.  I would have taken a picture but, the layout I had looked nothing like the pics you'd see in Taste of Home http://www.tasteofhome.com/ for sure!  I love all the recipes you can find there!  I'll have to go through all of my Taste of Home magazines and have my parents, as well as my sister with her family over for dinner soon.  Until then, Caleb & I will enjoy the leftovers and have tacos for lunch!  :)

My Parents are Coming to Taco Night!

Taco TimeImage via Wikipedia
At the last minute I invited my parents to come over for dinner for taco night.  It has been a long time since we last had a taco dinner.  It's been a while since my parents were over for dinner too.  Today has turned out to be a great day compared to yesterday.  Everyone was able to get along for most of the day, I was able to catch up on most of the stuff I had to do that I gave up on doing yesterday, took the boys to the library and came back with some good books.  I look forward to having my parents and maybe my nephew too if he can make it!  After my parents leave and I have cleaned up after our taco feast I am going to get busy reading a Nicholas Sparks book.  :)

A Day That Went From Bad to Worse !

After a very frustrating day dealing with boys fighting & a teenage boy with raging hormones causing him to be very moody I didn't end up doing anything yesterday.  After things were said and done causing anger and hurt feelings I just gave up.  I woke up and made coffee while Jimmy was in the shower and it seemed like it was going to be just another ordinary day.  Of course with my boys the days are never ordinary.  We don't go by a schedule around here and rarely make plans.  Yesterday though, we did have plans to meet my mother for lunch after my older son talked her into it.  After our day that started out good quickly started getting bad, the plans for lunch were canceled.  It was after that when things went from bad to worse!  Since I pretty much let the house go I now have to spend extra time cleaning today and it will not be easy since I woke up with a migraine.  Took some Imitrex which seems to be helping but, has also made me very sleepy. Maybe if I rest for 20-30 minutes it will be gone completely and can make today a better day.  I am going to get off here, get to working around the house, then get started with making some phone calls to plan for Caleb's 9th birthday, and then plan out my taco dinner for tonight.  My head is nodding off from the Imitrex I took so, this is all for now.

This is my First Blog!

This is my first blog entry after I finally decided to start one. I really don't know why really. With so much to say, so much to share, and so little time I'm not sur how I will be able to manage one but, I'll try. I hope that those that take time to read about some of the things going on in my crazy little world find it to be entertaining and maybe a little funny if not useful or informative. With my 15 year old recently getting his driver's learner's permit to drive my around and drive me crazy too, making plans for my soon to be 9 year olds upcoming birthday, and getting ready for back to school activities I am sure there will be plenty of to write about!
